J-Viewer Download and Run

1. Running from a Web Browser

To run the application from a Web Browser,

1. Download J2SE technology (version 1.4 or higher) for Windows from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html . The size of the J2SDK is 339KB. Note: If your machine already has J2SE version 1.4 or higher installed, you can skip this step.
2. Follow the link to download J-Viewer1. The size of the jar files used in the applet is 1MB (Therefore, over a slow connection, initial loading of the applet takes a minute or longer).
3. You will receive a security certificate from "Pathways Database Group"; click "yes". A new window will open with "pathways, processes, molecular entities". The sample database that is made available on the web has three pathways for demo purposes.

Quick Start: Right-click on, say, "pathways", and choose the pop-up menu option "display all pathways"; this will list the names of three pathways. Right-click on a pathway, and choose the pop-up menu option "draw this pathway"; this will draw the pathway in a separate window. (Please be patient while the pathway gets drawn; over a slow connection, it takes a minute or longer to draw a pathway.)

Note: The applet running the JPathwayViewer has been tested on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.

2. Installation on Windows

To install the J-pathway viewer, please follow the steps below:

1. Download J2SE technology (version 1.4 or higher) for Windows from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html . The size of the J2SDK is 339KB. Note: If your machine already has J2SE version 1.4 or higher installed, you can skip this step.
2. Download the file JViewer.jar. The size of the jar file is 469KB.
3. To run the application, double click on PathwayViewer.jar or use the command line instruction "java -jar JViewer.jar".

3. Installation on Unix and Apple

To install the J-pathway viewer, please follow the steps below:

1. Download J2SE technology (version 1.4 or higher) from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html. Note: If your machine already has J2SE version 1.4 or higher installed, you can skip this step.
2. Download the file JViewer.jar. The size of the jar file is 469KB. Note: We suggest to put the downloaded jar file into a separate directory.
3. To run the application, double click on JViewer.jar or use the command line instruction "java -jar JViewer.jar". Note: On systems where double clicking does not work, you have to use the command line instruction.
